Based On The Art:
William Morris (1834-1896) was an artist, designer, poet, social activist, and a founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Known for intricate floral wallpaper designs, his firm, Morris & Co. was hugely successful, producing hand crafted home décor products including fabrics, tapestries, embroideries and carpets. Cray is one of seven in a design series named for tributaries of the River Thames. With its strong diagonal bias and fantastical scrolling chrysanthemums and foliage, Cray is Morris’ most expensive pattern, requiring 34 blocks to create the complex print – more than any other in his studio. This design is inspired by this remarkable work.
